I just watched High Fidelity with John Cusack a week ago and it has me making top five lists all over the place.
So, here are my top five favorite fall bands:
*The Postal Service- I only started listening to them exactly 3 years ago when I first moved to New York, and it always reminds me of getting lost in Manhattan and flying over Manchester, or Burlington and seeing all the beautiful colors of fall.
*Weezer- Actually, Weezer is an “all year round” kind of band for me. But, the first time I heard the Blue album was in the fall and I remember driving to haunted houses, or field parties and just listening to it.
*Rilo Kiley- More Adventurous always reminds me of sitting around, in a corner, waiting for cheerleading practice to start, just knowing that there is so much more…fucking epic album.
*The Format- Dog Problems. I was in upstate New York with my best friend and her sister and we drove around Buffalo listening to this before a Say Anything show. It makes me feel sooooooooooooooooooo good.
*Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah- Yep that fine whiney voice will put me into some sort of autumn scene. Mostly just reading on a porch swing drinking some cider…
I have many more, and some recent additions but I feel five is just right.
I'm currently obsessed with Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
"Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta. She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita.”
"But I don’t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. “Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.” “How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice. “You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have come here.” (Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland)
